Chestermere Election Forum Had A Disappointing Turnout.

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

The Chestermere election forum had about 50 voters of age attend.  The kids who sponsored it did much better there were 20 of them.

Too bad the youth cannot vote.  I guess when you can't do something it is more attractive, than when it is something you take for granted.

As it was 4 of the new candidates were away.  2 were away on business, and two just were not there.

Keith Crowder attended by phone as he had to be out of town, and he answered the questions by speaker phone.

The incumbents were all in attendance.

As this forum was sponsored by Yell it seemed most of the questions concerned Youth.  You could submit your questions, and they were then drawn from a large box.   It seems that the youth had some time on their hands to fill in lots of  questions.

Question 1.  What do you know about yell?

Question 2.  What activities do you support for youth in Chestermere?

Question 3.  What about transportation for youth?

Question 4.  Will Chestermere be getting a swimming pool?

Question 5.  Where will Chestermere be in 3 years?

Question 6.  What about seniors residences in Chestermere?

Question 7.  Should council help a business that is going bankrupt?

Question 8.  What have you done to support Child Care in Chestermere?

This is a rough idea of the questions, as I did not take notes.  There were no earth shattering responses.  No real issues were brought up due to the nature of this format.

There will be another chance for voters to meet the candidates on October 2nd at the public library from 2 to 4:30.

The Alberta Economy Is Recovering? Is It A Great Time To Buy A Home?

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

 Alberta oil

The short answer to that question is maybe.  There are starting to be signs that we are headed for a recovery.  Certainly prices are at a very affordable level, and the inventory is very good.  If you would like report on what house prices are doing in your neighbourhood or the area you wish to buy in please click here.

In the Calgary Herald today this was a headline in the business section Drilling rights sales set Alberta Record.

Alberta has raised more money from the sale of conventional oil and gas drilling this year (2010) than in any other previous year.

Land sales are a key indicator of activity in oil and gas drilling.  More activity will get our economy going.

"This shows a renewed confidence in the oilpatch'' says Alberta Energy Spokesman Jay O'Neill he also says ''that this will translate into economic development for the province.''

On the same page was this article Calgary Herald Renata DÁlieso

"Confident consumers buying more vehicles." Mario Toneguzzi Calgary Herald.

Alberta dealers see spending accelerate

Auto Sales Keep On Truckin'; Confident consumers buying more vehicles  By Mario Toneguzzi, Calgary Herald

Scotia Economics released a report saying that auto purchases by Canadian households are on a near record pace.  Purchases in Alberta are up 14 percent so far this year.

If the drilling in Alberta picks up and consumer confidence is up, real estate will follow.

The headline on the front page of the Calgary Herald today was GROWTH SPURT.  AFTER WATCHING A TROUBLING OUT-MIGRATION IN THE SECOND HALF OF 2009, NEW RESIDENTS THIS YEAR HAVE HELPED ALBERTA RECLAIM THE TITLE OF CANADA'S FASTEST GROWING PROVINCE. Calgary Herald Renata DÁlieso

We are now seeing positive net-migration to Alberta.  "Alberta has added 18,538 residents in the second quarter of 2010 increasing 0.5 per cent --the highes growth rate amoung provinces."  Calgary Herald Renata DÁlieso

Real estate prices are down, will they go down more?  Not if the economy is recovering. If more people are moving to Alberta they will absorb the vacant homes, and more will have to be built.   This might be the opportunity to get into the market before it starts to go up!  This may be the best opportunity of your lifetime to upgrade into the dream home that you have been nervous about buying.

If you wish to have a report sent to you on house prices please visit our CalgaryRealEstatePrices.info website and fill out the area that you want to track values on and a little about your home and you will receive a detailed report on what homes in your neighbourhood have actually sold for.

Keith Crowder Is A Candidate Chestermere Would Be Wise To Vote For!

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Keith Crowder has been such a help to us in our real estate business when selling a Lakefront home.  For the couple of years there has been an issue with the titles of lakefront homes in Chestermere.

As lakefront realtors we have always ensured that lakefront buyer's understand exactly what they are getting when they buy a lakefront property.

As a representative of WID Keith has helped us ensure that buyers understand exactly what they are buying and what any future liabilities would be.

With Keith''s help we have never had a buyer come back and say that they now have a bill from the town for land that they did not know they woud have to buy.

Sadly some individuals that did not have us represent us have had that problem.

I know that Keith would have helped that buyer in his capacity as Manager, Resources and Planning with Western Irrigation District (WID).

We and four neighbours worked with WID on straightening our shoreline.  We negotiated a contract through Keith in his capacity with WID that was fair and good for all of us.  Keith took care of the paperwork, he did everything he said he would professionally and promptly.  We enjoyed doing business with him, as he was always professional and courteous.

We have found Keith to be knowledgable and concerned about what is happening in Chestermere.  He goes to council meetings and is aware of what is happening.  Keith is now semi-retired and is looking to redirect his knowledge and energy somewhere else.  Thankfully he has lived in Chestermere for the past six years and cares enough to run for public office.

He has a unique viewpoint having worked with WID for the past five years.  Some may say that this makes him and adversary to Lakefront Owners.  We would say that it gives him a unique understanding of the history and the problems that lakefront owners have faced.  We know that he feels a great responsibility for all of the lakefront owners that he has had dealings with over the past few years.  That is why when council was trying to pass a bill that would have banned all boathouses, Keith got on the phone and made as many people aware as he could.

Without Keith notifying us all, that bylaw would have been passed without much consideration, or public involvement.

Check out his website perhaps you will agree that he is exactly the type of candidate Chestermere needs.
